RESEARCH NOTES

01 Scope and evidence status

This is a limited source-checked comparison, not completed six-category research or a measure of how commonly people behave in these ways.

Institutional public advocacy grounded in inherited religious legal tradition; five directional categories remain pending.

RESEARCH NOTES

02 Definitions, actors and overlapping commitments

Traditional values require substantive reliance on inherited practices or moral/religious continuity, not a religious label alone. Conservative/Masorti denotes a religious movement here, not partisan political conservatism.

Pro-choice fit requires explicit abortion-access advocacy. Commitments can overlap within one institution; that does not itself establish a coalition or reciprocity.

05 3. Traditional Values → Pro-Choice — Supportive interactions

The Rabbinical Assembly’s resolution dated May 21, 2012, and recorded as passed by its Plenum that May, explicitly grounds reproductive-freedom advocacy in biblical/rabbinic texts and responsa. It urges members and public officials to defend abortion-inclusive access and oppose restrictions. [1]

Its cited religious permissions include serious physical or psychological harm and severe fetal impairment; its public access demands are broader than those specified permissions. Preserve that distinction.

A September 10, 2021 statement again invokes Jewish law/tradition alongside a commitment to oppose a Texas restriction. This corroborates institutional advocacy, not successful repeal or an independently established access outcome. [2]

RESEARCH NOTES

09 Limitations and unresolved claims

The analytical traditional-values classification concerns this institution’s articulated inherited legal tradition, not all Jewish people or traditional-values adherents. Do not infer universal religious agreement, a separate-group coalition, completed intervention, outcome or reciprocal pro-choice support.

Legal/constitutional descriptions are the institution’s contemporaneous claims, not verified current law. Disagreement alone does not establish harm, and lawfulness does not automatically exclude harm.
