First development group · Three new Events

Historical pressure on convictions

Each Event costs 6 Faith and targets one named conviction. Matching determines who is affected; it does not require the player using the Event to hold that conviction. These are proposed alpha mechanics, awaiting playtesting.

Shared resolution: The player using the Event rolls 1d6 + 4 once. Each opposing Character with the named conviction separately rolls 1d6 + its Defense. For each defender whose total is lower, its controller loses 1 Resolve. Characters are not defeated by this effect.

If the opposing player has the matching Conviction card, that player also makes one separate 1d6 + 4 defense roll and loses 1 Resolve if its total is lower than the Event total. Ties favor the defender. Total Resolve loss from one Event is capped at 4.

Resolve these as one Event, announcing eligibility and allowing the normal pre-roll Reaction opportunity before rolling begins. The three cards use equal mechanics for game balance; this does not equate their histories, severity, or human cost.

Edicts Against Christians

Event · Faith Cost 6 · Targets Christianity

Beginning in 303 CE, imperial edicts under Diocletian ordered the destruction of churches and scriptures and imposed penalties on Christians. Contemporary accounts describe escalating persecution.

Tea Party Targeting

Event · Faith Cost 6 · Targets Conservative

Use the shared resolution above against opposing Conservative Characters and the opposing player’s matching Conviction card.

Conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status faced inappropriate IRS screening criteria, intrusive questioning, and delays. A 2017 Justice Department settlement announcement described disproportionate effects on conservative groups. Later Treasury review also examined inappropriate criteria involving other viewpoints; the historical claim is not that only conservatives were affected.

The Lavender Scare

Event · Faith Cost 6 · Targets LGBTQ+

Use the shared resolution above against opposing LGBTQ+ Characters and the opposing player’s matching Conviction card.

Beginning in the late 1940s, a federal campaign sought to remove employees because of actual or perceived homosexuality. Executive Order 10450 in 1953 intensified discrimination that damaged livelihoods and communities.

Development note: A unique-card audit of the overall 120-card map is pending. Characters that also belong to three-card sets must be counted only once. The 25-card group above already follows that rule.
