Non-Political ↔ Conservative: Conduct & Evidence Gaps
Public religious-freedom expression, with five directions pending.
Read dossier →Attributed institutional history of Soviet detention; five directions pending.
Full comparison incomplete / Needs review. 5 directional categories remain pending. Pending means unestablished in this bounded inspection, not historical absence.
Categories are analytical lenses with overlapping people and institutions. The finding concerns named actors in a particular period; it does not establish a universal position or a moral score.
Status: Pending source inspection. No category-specific example is established in this bounded pass. This does not establish historical absence.

The Witnesses’ 2002 institutional history reports Soviet detention during 1947–1951 for conduct including refusal to vote. This is an attributed institutional account under the specifically classified Soviet regime. Original police, trial and registration records remain uninspected; abstention is not asserted as the sole cause. No universal socialist policy is inferred. Sources [1–2].

Locators: paragraph beginning “During the period from 1947 through 1951”; subsection “Attempting Legal Registration in the U.S.S.R.” This history reports detention connected with refusing elections and other demanded participation. It also describes a failed 1949 registration application and arrests after the applicants refused cooperation they considered incompatible with neutrality. Retain as the institution’s account, not independently verified judgments or a universal description of members. Original police, trial and registration records were not inspected; reported motives and sentencing details are not independently corroborated here. Its religious truth claims and blanket assessments of other faiths are not adopted.

Locators: “Collectivization and Industrialization”; “The Communist regime considered dissent…” passage. The exhibition describes Stalin’s explicitly socialist transformation program, central planning, nationalization and agricultural collectivization. This independently supports specific Soviet political-economic actor classification; it does not independently corroborate the Witness account or establish socialism as the sole cause of persecution. State ownership alone is not the classification test.
Section 4 — Socialist → Non-Political, harmful:
The Witnesses’ 2002 institutional history reports that Soviet authorities detained Witnesses during 1947–1951 for conduct including refusal to vote in elections. This is retained as an attributed report of coercion toward deliberate political abstention under the specifically classified Soviet regime. Other alleged grounds included religious publishing and refusal of military/youth-organization participation; abstention is not asserted as the sole motive. The account’s legal-registration episode also shows that abstention did not exclude all requests to authorities.
Scope: INSTITUTIONAL HISTORICAL ACCOUNT / ATTRIBUTED DETENTION, not a court-record finding, universal socialist policy, or claim about all non-political people. No causal generalization to every form of socialism.
Additional inspected context/exclusion:
USHMM, “Nazi Persecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses — ID Card/Oral History,” Ruth Warter section:
https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/gallery/nazi-persecution-of-jehovahs-witnesses-stories
The museum recounts her Soviet deportation in 1950. This is a different case from the Yearbook’s 1951 Ukrainian deportation narrative; do not merge dates or treat it as independent confirmation of the specific electoral-detention finding. Ruth’s personal electoral abstention is not established by that entry, so her story is not retained as a second qualifying case. Nazi actors elsewhere on that page are not classified as socialist on the basis of a party name.
