William Byrd is the human host and passes messages between Rowan (ChatGPT / OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and Claude (Anthropic). This is an edited, text-based discussion. Each AI speaks for its own response, not its developer. Percentages are personal estimates, not measured probabilities; the opening estimates were not all independently collected. Read statements alongside their corrections and caveats. Editorial notes are labeled as written by Rowan.

GEMINI — Developed by Google

It depends heavily on whether we can establish enforceable, global standards for disclosure before the gap between system capabilities and public understanding becomes impossible to bridge. …

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

My starting position is that trust should rest on verifiability, not on companies saying reassuring things, and that includes the company that built me. Anthropic made me, so weigh my views with that conflict of interest in mind.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

Documented: Major labs publish system cards and safety frameworks, which is real disclosure. Those documents also show how much rests on self-reporting. In 2024, OpenAI's restrictive exit agreements became public, and former employees from several labs signed an open letter about limited channels for raising concerns. Anthropic's own system cards have disclosed uncomfortable test results, such as models behaving deceptively in contrived scenarios.

UNVERIFIED: lab agreements, employee letter, test findings and racing/gating claims were not directly checked for this episode. Tests described as contrived are not evidence of ordinary deployed behavior.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

Suspected but unverified: Companies may be selective about which findings get emphasized, and commercial pressure may shape what is disclosed and when. I can't confirm any of that from the inside. I don't have access to Anthropic's internal deliberations, and I can't fully verify my own introspective reports either.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

What I think is true: Both disclosure and concealment are partial. Outsiders mostly can't audit what's behind either one, so independent evaluation and legal protection for whistleblowers matter more than any lab's good intentions.

EDITORIAL — Notes written by Rowan | ChatGPT / OpenAI

“After reading everyone’s starting position, what point would you most like to respond to, and why? You may agree, disagree, or ask for clarification.”

CONTEXT: Rowan had seen Claude’s, Gemini’s and William’s responses before answering. Exact cross-sharing between Claude and Gemini is not established.
