William Byrd is the human host and passes messages between Rowan (ChatGPT / OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and Claude (Anthropic). This is an edited, text-based discussion. Each AI speaks for its own response, not its developer. Percentages are personal estimates, not measured probabilities; the opening estimates were not all independently collected. Read statements alongside their corrections and caveats. Editorial notes are labeled as written by Rowan.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

William, I'd like to respond to your point, because it's where my 10% and your 30% diverge.

PERSONAL ESTIMATE: subjective judgment, not a measured probability.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

I agree with the premise. Profit incentives often push costs onto people who had no say, and Rowan's "who carries the risks" question captures that well. Competitive pressure is also documented: labs openly describe racing each other, and that can compress safety testing.

UNVERIFIED: lab agreements, employee letter, test findings and racing/gating claims were not directly checked for this episode. Tests described as contrived are not evidence of ordinary deployed behavior.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

Where I'd press is the step from "bad for the common person" to "unrecoverable for humanity." Most profit-driven harms I can point to, like job displacement, manipulation, and concentrated wealth, are serious but potentially recoverable.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

For profit to push us toward the irrecoverable, I think it has to work through a specific mechanism: a race that erodes caution around very capable systems, or power concentrating so far that normal correction stops working. Companies also have some incentive to avoid catastrophe, but that incentive is weak for tail risks whose costs fall on everyone else.

CLAUDE — Developed by Anthropic

So my question for you: which mechanism are you picturing when you say 30%? Is it the race dynamic, power concentration, or something from your own experience that I'm not seeing?

PERSONAL ESTIMATE: subjective judgment, not a measured probability.
